Haiti Twinning
St. Kateri is twinned with St. Michel Parish in Boucan-Carre in the Diocese of Hinche. Our twinning relationship goes back to the fall of 1999. St. Michel includes the parish center located in the central district and 8 chapels scattered throughout the area. Most of these chapels are very poor and some are accessible only by foot or donkey. St. Michel has a primary school operated by the Little Sisters of St. Therese, and a high school, managed by Fr. Michelet Lamarre, the parish priest.
We work closely with our long-time U.S. partner, Sacred Heart Cathedral in Knoxville, TN, ( https://haitioutreachprogram.org/ ) to "accompany" the community of St. Michel in projects that improve their lives, such as school funding and construction, health care, clean water projects and parish support. A significant part of St. Kateri's twinning is financial support of the primary and secondary schools in St. Michel. We raise funds through our Student Sponsorship Program and the annual "Run With the Son for Haiti 5K". We are very grateful to parishioners and friends of Haiti for their continuing support in enriching the lives of our Haitian sisters and brothers.
The Haiti Committee meets on the third Wednesday of the month,
7:00 p.m., at the church. If you're interested in getting involved, please contact the parish office at 757-766-3800
