St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Community was founded in 1986.
"Calling all Catholics in Poquoson and Tabb!" was the subject of an advertisement in a local Yorktown newspaper in 1986. On June 2, 1986, a small group met in a local home and from that point the parish began. Today St. Kateri Tekakwitha is a vibrant ministry-based community comprised of 448 families.
At the installation of the parish then Bishop Walter F. Sullivan challenged the founding members to become a community together, to be the people of God called by baptism to spread the good news of Jesus and to be servants to all the community.
