St Kateri is planning a pilgrimage, in honor of our Jubilee, to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in the Fall of 2025. Details will be posted here when they are available.
The tradition of the Jubilee originates in the Old Testament when God commanded the Israelites to observe a sacred year. It was a time of rest for the land, freedom for slaves, and the restoration of property, symbolizing a renewal in God’s mercy.
In the Catholic Church, Jubilee years occur every twenty-five years as Ordinary Jubilees, offering a time of grace, forgiveness, and spiritual renewal. The last Ordinary Jubilee was celebrated in 2000, marking two thousand years since the birth of Christ. Occasionally, a pope may declare an Extraordinary Jubilee to highlight a specific theme or need, such as Pope Francis’ Jubilee of Mercy in 2015.
